Ventura fire chief says say no to illegal fireworks

This year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission set up reenactments of actual accidents involving fireworks to show how unsafe they can be.

The 4th of July is near and you know what that means, fireworks stands are popping up across imperial county but what type of fireworks are legal?

Fireworks can already be risky, but this dry spell has upped the ante.

In Rhode Island, aerial and display fireworks are prohibited however ground-based and hand held devices, fountains, illuminating torches and sparklers are allowed. In addition, one-fourth of the fireworks-related fires reported in the USA each year occur on the Fourth of July.

Last year, emergency rooms around the country treated an average of 267 fireworks-related injuries per day in the 30-day span between June 19 and July 19.
