Verizon’s grandfathered unlimited data users face $20 price hike
“There are options out there that don’t involve unlimited that may be a better fit for you”, he said, declining to break out how much data an unlimited customer typically uses.

Verizon has confirmed that starting in November, the cost of the unlimited data plan will go up by $20 each month, which means that it’ll cost $49.99 per month.
Verizon is about to increase the price of your unlimited data plan, assuming you have held onto it for all these years. Depending on your contract status, you should then have 60 days to decide if you want to accept the increase or change to another plan. Still, that extra $20 per month will add up. Of course, as soon as it is made official, we’ll be sure to update all of you and let you know exactly what’s going on with Verizon and the grandfathered unlimited data plans.
It’s the latest wrinkle thrown at unlimited data customers as Verizon attempts to move them to tiered plans with limits on how many movies, videos and songs they can download to their smartphones.
We’ll reach out to Verizon for comment and update this post if they respond. Verizon no longer offers an unlimited data plan and today only provides buckets in S, M, L, XL and, for a limited time, XXL.
Update: Here is Verizon’s statement. “That value is underpinned by our $100 billion+ network investment since 2000, which powers the reliability of a Verizon customer’s experience”.

It’s no mystery that wireless carriers have pushed hard to get users on metered data plans, hoping to raise data revenues as the SMS and voice minute cash cows head out to pasture.
