Hamilton’s Mercedes team, who have dominated Formula One for the best part of three seasons, were bizarrely off the pace at the Marina Bay Circuit previous year.

Rosberg is especially anxious about the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari, who are both tipped to give Mercedes a serious scare this weekend.

“Let’s wait and see, we definitely need to keep on working and getting the most out of it for tomorrow and hope that’s going to be enough to give Red Bull and Ferrari a run for their money”.

“I don’t want to go into the details of what has been changed, and that’s one of the beauties of the tokens because with this process we don’t have to document what we are changing”, said Abiteboul, who believes the update could be worth as much as 0.2s.

“We still feel that we can get a little bit more speed out of the auto so that’s what tonight is for”.

“We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves because previous year on Friday we looked okay and on Saturday we were nowhere. After Monaco, this is definitely the best track for us”. “Even if we find a few small things, then they will hopefully add up to quite a bit of lap time here tomorrow”.

The Australian, who finished second to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel previous year in Singapore and would have won in Monaco but for a botched final pit stop, labelled the end of his lap “a bit scrappy”, acknowledging he had probably taken too much life out of his tyres. “As predicted, three teams are all there within half a second”.

“I think today we still left a little bit left on the table”.

“They look pretty strong again”, he said. “But we can get quite a bit from the set up”.

I think we need to just find a little bit more in the set up, I know the vehicle quite well now so I know there’s a few things on it which can be better so hopefully we jag that tonight and prepare it well for tomorrow.
