LNG carrier Asia Vision, which is owned by Chevron, is set to become the first vessel to load gas at Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana, US.

The tanker Asia Vision LNG will ship the fuel to Brazil, where it will be received by Petroleo Brasileiro SA, according to a Bloomberg report. Initial exports will be considered commissioning cargoes as part of the start-up process to ensure the terminal is fully operational.

“It’s under Bechtel’s control, they drive the schedule”, she said, referring to the construction firm in charge of building Sabine Pass for Cheniere.

With expected growth in pipeline exports to Mexico and LNG exports to the world, the United States expects to transition from a net importer of gas to a net exporter by 2017 as the nation’s shale gas production continues to grow, according to federal energy forecasts.

Cheniere Energy Inc (NYSEMKT:LNG)’s rating was increased by analysts at Goldman Sachs from a Neutral rating to a Buy rating in a note sent to investors and clients on Tuesday, 23 February.

Natural gas futures were up 1 percent, or 1.7 cents, at 1:12 p.m. New York time to $1.799 per million British thermal units on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

American liquefied natural gas will soon hit the global market. In the Lower 48 states, he said natural gas was exported in the 1950s.

Cheniere didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the tanker pulling away.

Smith said LNG has been shipped from Alaska to Japan since 1969. Cheniere didn’t respond to an e-mail and voicemail. Competition for contracts in Europe and Asia, with Chinese companies already committed to receiving more than they need, will also work against US exporters, Yergin said.

In fact, due to the growing demand for LNG and its cost-effectiveness, it is not surprising to see that Cheniere has already contracted 87% of its LNG volumes by way of 20-year contracts.
