Veteran Mike Miller brings steady presence to mercurial Nuggets
Mike Miller signed a contract with the Denver Nuggets Wednesday, per the Denver Post’s Christopher Dempsey.

The 15-year veteran, along with forward Brendan Haywood and two future draft picks, was traded to Portland on July 27 but the Blazers had no intention of using Miller. After spending four of the last five seasons alongside LeBron James in Miami and then Cleveland, Miller should have plenty of wisdom to impart to his new teammates, but his on-court contributions aren’t expected to be notable.
Over his career, Miller has averaged 11.3 points and 4.4 points while shooting 46% from the floor and 40.7% from three-point range.
The Orlando Magic selected Miller fifth overall in the 2000 National Basketball Association Draft and in his stint with the team won the Rookie of the Year award. While with the Grizzlies, he was in fact given the name Sixth Man along the Year in 2006. Second, the Nuggets are getting another solid locker-room presence in Miller, something team management has emphasized after last season’s dysfunction.
If Miller continues to sign with the Nuggets, he will again have the same role, providing veteran leadership and experience to a squad filled with young talent.

The Nuggets are looking to upgrade their outside shooting and the 6-foot-8 Miller appears to fit the bill. He’s likely going to be the third option behind Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler.
