Veteran safety Roman Harper to return to New Orleans Saints, agency says

Several media reports and a tweet from his agent have indicated that former New Orleans Saints safety Roman Harper is returning to the team after two years with the Carolina Panthers.

Roman Harper is heading back to where it began. He was a Pro Bowl pick in 2009 and 2010 and won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints following the 2009 season.

SportsTrust, the agency which represents the 33-year old Harper, confirmed on Tuesday that his agreement with the Saints is for one season. New Orleans still has both starting safeties from last season – Kenny Vaccaro and Jairus Byrd. And his greatest asset might be his leadership.

In Harper’s eight seasons in New Orleans, he amassed 529 tackles, with 54 pass breakups, 15 forced fumbles, 17 sacks and seven interceptions. Bringing Harper back will bring a veteran voice to the secondary and potentially help with the development of Bell. The aforementioned safeties are all likely locks to make the team, which will leave Harper trying to beat out some of the other guys on the roster.

New Orleans made Harper a second-round draft choice out of Alabama in 2006.
