It was all to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the war being finished, and most importantly to honor the veterans that served in the second world war.

On Saturday, Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County hosted a public wreath laying ceremony, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. Every veteran has their reason for why they fought, and it’s a story that is continually told to generation upon generation of Americans.

Among those to respond was Norm Dupont of Manchester, who said he was 6 years old when word came of the war’s end.

“I made a promise to all the guys that never returned, to all the men who gave their last effort and could not get back”, Fox said. “The blood and sacrifice of our veterans, the victory won by American soldiers showing uncommon valor on the battlefield, are what we need to remember”.

Cemetery Director Howard Porter Jr. said that such ceremonies as this one were taking place around the world on that day.

The day is geared towards honoring the legacy of those men and women who lived during the World War 2. The United States didn’t become involved in the war until the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941.

The couple was married more than 36 years before William Cunningham died.

“I’m glad that they have done this for us today and I hope that the young people recognize what the World War Two veterans did”, said Royce Nation, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-46.

Members of the Patriot Guard stood around the edge of the pavilion as guests and veterans took their seats. “The more they’ve seen, the less you’ll hear them talk”. Marchione helped lay a wreath by the grave of the first such veteran buried there.
