Veterans reflect on state of GR vets home on Memorial Day

“We are here to honor the veterans, the few who were so willing to give themselves and defend their brothers and sisters and our country”, said Charlotte Gillespie, commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3.

Colonel Guy added, “What greater honor can we give them than to remember them”.

Sandra Johnson, of Fenton, said some people forget that Memorial Day is more than just having an extra day off that everyone enjoys.

“It’s a day of remembrance of those who didn’t get back and a reminder that this country isn’t free, we have to do something to keep it the way we have it”, said LCDR Gil Shaw, USCG (Ret.). He says many fearless Louisianans have fought for our freedom.
