Victor Cruz’s late touchdown sees Giants beat Dallas in season opener

They’re likely without him at least another month, and Prescott will have to make teams pay if they stack the line of scrimmage to stop fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott the way the Giants did. “You never want to knock a guy trying to make a play”. The heralded rookie ran the ball 20 times for only 51 yards.

The Cowboys had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win it, but the Giants were able to stand tall.

In Williams’s defense, if he risked (and lost) the chance at a final field goal try for a matter of yards, those were important yards. The Cowboys dropped to 1-12 without Tony Romo since their star quarterback went out in Week 2 a year ago with the first of two broken left collarbones. Meanwhile the defense confised rookie QB Dak Prescott enough that Dallas had to settle for four field goals as the Dallas offense stalled.

Playing in his first regular-season game in almost two years, Cruz caught the go-ahead touchdown from Eli Manning (19 of 28, 207 yards, three touchdowns and one pathetic interception) with 6:13 left in the game.

The Dallas Cowboys didn’t look as bad as they have in the past without quarterback Tony Romo under center. NY only got inside of the Cowboys’ 20-yard line three times in this game, but they made it pay off big each time with three touchdowns. And then our defense came out and stopped them. Finally, the Giants got a win on Sunday that they would not have in 2015. We’re going to find a way to get better and continue to get better.

“We’ll get better”, Prescott said. The “situational” mistakes, which we see consistently – and we saw a bunch from the Giants a season ago – are just hard for me to fathom from players at the highest levels of their sport.

“I was telling myself that I can’t let him get out of bounds”, Rodgers-Cromartie said. “So it doesn’t remind me of previous year as far as our ability to be a real good offensive team”. That’s trite to say that.

“He’s technically not supposed to do what he did, but we’ll worry about that later”, said Manning, who threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns with an interception tht led the Cowboys’ only TD.

The Giants were shredded by the Saints veteran quarterback last season in a 52-49 loss. I think I did well for the most part. I was not brought here to be average. A lot to work on.

“The NFL, win or lose, there’s somebody up next week waiting for you”, he added. Most of the remaining film will show Eli Manning standing upright and the Giants running backs exploding through the line again and again and again.
