Detroit Tigers’ Victor Martinez continues to yell at home plate umpire Mike Everitt (57) as he is escorted off the field by manager Brad Ausmus following his ejection during the third inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in Detroit. “So it’s not necessarily that we didn’t think every pitch that was called a strike wasn’t a strike, but we’d like the same pitches called for us”. Ausmus followed Joyner and was also tossed. Martinez struck out looking, then told Everitt that he was “having a bad day”.

Ricky Nolasco (4-12) held the Tigers scoreless for the first five innings, but ended up allowing four runs, nine hits and three walks in 6 › innings. Fernando Salas closed for his fifth save. “That’s really encouraging. He’s matched up well with these guys”.
“I don’t know if he had quite the same stuff we saw early in the year”, Scioscia said. He pitched a great game against them in Anaheim early in the season.
In Phoenix, Brandon Drury scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the 11th inning. It was Pujols’ first regular-season homer off Verlander, though he did hit one off the Tigers ace in the 2006 World Series.

Anibal Sanchez took the loss for Detroit, allowing all five runs in five and two-thirds innings. He gave up eight hits in 5 2/3 innings with no walks and two strikeouts.Skaggs (2-3) gave up a single plus a double to Cabrera but no hits to anybody else in his six innings.
Angels: RHP Matt Shoemaker will be making his first career appearance against the Cincinnati Reds.

Verlander (14-7) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out eight in his ninth straight quality start.
