Victor Valdes to leave Manchester United in January, says agent

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes will leave Old Trafford in January, according to his agent Gines Carvajal.

The agent also revealed that Valdes turned down an opportunity to return to Spain over the last transfer window, refusing an offer made by Valencia.

The Spaniard has been frozen out of the first team by Louis van Gaal and now finds himself exiled to the Under-21s side. “The philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm”, Van Gaal said, as quoted by Goal.

And while there have been calls to change the transfer policy – with Steve Harper calling for more battle-hardened Premier League-ready players to be bought – Newcastle are set to stick roughly to the same plan when it comes to investment in the new year.

Valdes now trains independently from the rest of the first-team squad and is no longer allowed his own locker at United’s training facilities.

His agent has now said that the nightmare will be over in the next transfer window. “He won’t be coming to Spain, unless he decides otherwise”.

“He had the option of coming to Valencia in the summer and did not want to”, he confirmed.

If by January Newcastle look to be out of relegation trouble then I can’t see any way such a move for Valdes would be considered. “He had the chance to join Valencia but having played for Barcelona it is complicated”. Meanwhile, Newcastle have emerged in recent days as another potential destiny for the keeper following Tim Krul’s serious injury.
