Charlton’s Avoca River is tipped to peak at 7.5 metres Friday morning.
On Friday afternoon there were major flood warnings on the Loddon and Wimmera rivers and moderate flood warnings for the Barwon, Glenelg, Ovens, King and Werribee rivers.
Man and young girl rescued from floodwaters at Inverleigh.
Across the state, emergency services have plucked 17 people from floodwaters, sometimes having to resort to using a police helicopter due to the perilous conditions.
Frantic search fails to find any trace of an elderly farmer swept away in floodwater south of Hamilton.
Locals prepare for a flood as the Avoca River nears its peak in Charlton. One of three dogs tied to the back of the ute was found dead on Wednesday.
Police divers and the air wing took part in the search before the discovery on Friday.
Ten homes could be flooded by the Avoca River flood, Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley said on Thursday.
“It’s anticipated there will be minimal numbers of homes or other properties impacted beyond those that have already been impacted”, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said.
“Do not enter floodwater by vehicle, or by foot”.
There is some good news, however, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting less rain will be dumped on Victoria on Thursday in comparison to previous days.
“We are looking at further rain moving across the state during the weekend.it won’t be as heavy as the first few days of this week, but we could still be getting totals of 10 to 20 millimetres across the northern parts”.
