Asked his view of the video released by Iranian media showing the Americans kneeling aboard their boats with their hands on the heads, Carter said, “Obviously I don’t like to see our people being detained by a foreign military”. Reports said Iran wanted an apology for the incident and hours ago the USA hadn’t given one according to Secretary of State John Kerry’s spokesperson.
Vice President Biden said Wednesday one of the boats had engine failure and drifted into Iranian waters where they were quote, “rescued”.
They were taken into custody when their two small vessels entered Iranian waters during a training mission.
When they were eventually released by the Iranians, the boats made their way back to the Guided Missile Destroyer USS Anzio, which was waiting for them nearby.
The unidentified sailor stated in the footage that his Iranian captors behaved in a “fantastic” manner during the crew’s time there and thanked them for their “hospitality”.
Navy officials were also staying in close touch with the families of the sailors to keep them apprised of the situation, the official said.
On Tuesday, 10 USA sailors were temporarily detained by Iran after their two Riverine boats entered Iranian waters near Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf.
Iran and the United States might have ended up in a “bloody war”, had Washington followed Republican demand to confront Tehran over its detention of trespassing American sailors, says the White House.
Officials have been revealing more details about the incident since the 10 sailors were debriefed after their release Wednesday.
The sailors were already released after the inconvenience took place.
The U.S. commander who spoke on camera, identified Friday as 27-year-old Lt. David Nartker, has indicated he felt pressure to talk about how well the sailors were being treated.
Presidential candidate Jeb Bush claimed that Obama’s Iran policy was “humiliatingly weak”.

US officials communicated with the Iranian government immediately after the crews were detained and the matter came to a resolution.
