Video shows confrontation between resource officer and individual at Spring
Police in South Carolina are investigating an altercation between a female high school student and the school’s resource officer after a video of the incident started to circulate on social media. An administrator was called to the room, and also asked the student to leave, Lott said, and she refused again.

The video shows a uniformed officer asking a student to rise from a classroom desk.
Upon learning of the incident, school and district administrators began an investigation.
“Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color”, they wrote.
The video was a shot inside a classroom at Spring Valley High School in Richland County, South Carolina.
We are working to learn what prompted the incident.
In a longer version of the video, the officer looms over the student before grabbing her.
The officer approaches the girl before putting his arm around her neck and slamming her backwards while she is still seated.

As expected, such violence occurring at Spring Valley High School has caused quite a bit of buzz online, with a few students writing on social media that they want Fields fired for his actions.
Beyond performing duties for the sheriff’s department as the high school’s resource officer, Fields coaches the school varsity football team’s defensive line and strength training.

The sheriff’s write-up about him winning the award says Fields has worked with the department since 2004 and became a school resource officer in 2008.
