A controversial video is going viral that shows a cop grabbing a boy by the throat at his high school. One male student refused to comply with an administrator and was attempting to continue to fight the other student.

They tried talking Hughes down but round rock police say they couldn’t and were forced to detain him.

Police said officers walked one of the students to another area of the building to try and calm him down. “He was not being violent towards the officer, he wasn’t hitting him, he didn’t have a weapon, he was just emotional, which is mostly understood after being in a conflict just as he was”.

Apparently, the student was involved in a fight with another student over football goggles and school administrators called the police.

When Hughes later asked for the friend to return the goggles, he said he no longer had them and had already given them back.

Kashka Hughes said the police should have escorted his son to the principal’s office or a detention center.

Authorities had been called to intervene when a fight broke out in the school cafeteria and staff had been unable to break it up, the Red Rock Police Department said in a statement. ‘And was like “get away from me” and finally I pushed him back and I shoved him to the ground. The teen claims he was being accused of being rude to the assistant principal when he was grabbed. Seconds later, the officer grabs Hughes’ throat and drags him to the ground. “That’s the point when he grabbed me and took me down and tried to detain me”, he recounted, “I was just very upset, I was amped up over the fight and wasn’t really thinking”. Following the incident Hughes was not arrested but was suspended from class for a single day. The incident is now under review by RRPD. We look forward to the continued partnership between our public safety partners in evaluating this incident and in our continued support of safe and secure schools.

“Gyasi never gets in trouble”, said Vazquez. The cafeteria fight was first the Gyasi had even been in, and he’s teaching his son ways to cope with future stressful situations.

Hughes said his son has since apologized to the cop. “In terms of the officer it was definitely excessive force that was being used”.
