Vieira: ‘disappointing’ Gunners lack physical presence and personality of Invincibles

Arsene Wenger’s transfer activity has been recently lambasted with the Frenchman once again forced into a staunch defence of his actions on Saturday after calls from supporters to spend money after the 0-0 stalemate at Leicester.

“We are highly influenced by the media so that’s part of the process today”.

“I quite admire that in the world where some clubs have so much money, they buy players for £40m who are worth £10m”. I don’t understand that.

Wenger has not led Arsenal to the league title for over a decade, but appears determined not to sway from his reluctance to spend big money to change the picture.

“We have a few strikers who have a chance, if we find the right players we buy”.

Arsene Wenger has reassured anxious Arsenal fans he intends to spend before the transfer deadline.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Wenger said, “I think overall it was a good performance, a good match between two good teams”.

“The club has 600 staff and we have a responsibility to them”. Yes the amount of money being spent is unbelievable, but if Arsenal want to compete amongst the best, then surely we have to act accordingly in turn with what the best do both on the pitch and off the pitch financially.

Wenger knows he needs a positive result at the King Power tomorrow to keep his critics at bay and give him time to bring in the two additions we sorely need to make us competitive this season. “You should be happy because he’s English, 20 years old – but I’m sorry he didn’t cost £55m, so he can’t be good”. But nobody speaks about the game anymore, it is all about money. “When we have a summer tournament it’s the same for every other team, not just for Arsenal. You should be happy; he is English, he is 20 years old, but I’m sorry he didn’t cost £55m, so it can not be good”. “I believe it is very hard to identify people and find them. It was a game where we had the chances and I think it was a game of intensity and quality”, he said.

One player Wenger failed to lure to the Emirates Stadium was Leicester forward Jamie Vardy, who rejected the overtures to sign a fresh deal with the champions. But it isn’t only the fans that recognise Arsenal’s difficulties, as the players too have also noticed that the Gunners will find it very tough to compete at the top this season, due to a lack of activity in the transfer window.
