In light of the shooting at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood that killed three people and injured nine others on November 27, Planned Parenthood affiliates across the nation hosted events for a National Day of Solidarity on Saturday. Hours after the shootout ended, Planned Parenthood staffers were vowing to return to work as usual Monday morning.
Leaders, community partners, Planned Parenthood patients and Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, all spoke at the event.
The flags were lowered after the Colorado Springs shooting and were still lowered when Hickenlooper announced Thursday they would remain lowered for the victims of the shootings in San Bernadino, Calif. Speaking calmly, she said her husband’s message to the world was “Put your faith in the Lord”.
Richards drew loud applause when she said it was time to end violence against women and the doctors and other health care workers who care for them.
They say enough is enough.
“We’re out here to stand in solidarity with victims of extremism and gun violence, specifically the victims of the shooting in Colorado, so we’re here to stand against extremism, against violent rhetoric, which as you can see has real life consequences”, said Lauren Shuler, a Planned Parenthood supporter. Some spent the attack hiding inside the clinic but many details, including a timeline of the attack, have not been released by police.
