She remembered everything about Reagan, and he remembered everything about her.

Brokaw added that the first lady became one of “the two or three most important” political advisers in the president’s administration.

They concluded the message by sending prayers to the family and writing, “We remain grateful for Nancy Reagan’s life, thankful for her guidance, and prayerful that she and her beloved husband are together again”. Mrs. Reagan was, in many ways, the driving force behind President Reagan and many of his achievements.

Nancy Reagan’s death sparked feelings of sadness and admiration across Southern California on Sunday as the former first lady was remembered as a fierce protector of her husband who devoted her life to carrying out his life’s work until her final days.

The Hollywood glitterati weighed in on social media, many of them grieving the passing of an icon they remembered having grown up in the Reagan era.

“Nancy Reagan was one of my heroes. She was a BOSS”, wrote actress Elizabeth Banks of “The Hunger Games” fame.

By 1999, Nancy Reagan had been trying to cope with her husband’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis for five years, and she was asked in a C-Span interview what she had learned. I’ll never forget Bush’s sheepish expression.

Former President Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California in 1966.

“Nancy is where she has always wanted to be – with her Ronnie”, Michael Reagan, president of the Reagan Legacy Foundation, wrote on Twitter. In a statement released by a spokesperson, before the funeral, the public will have an opportunity to pay their respects.

McCain also expressed his admiration for the partnership Reagan shared with her husband, Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States.

It happened, she said, at a meeting “with this lady who we were trying to convince to do something for the White House”. It’s far from a classic – in fact it’s somewhat derided – but the film remains an interesting document of historical value just by nature of the fact that it features the future President and first lady.

She rushed to his side after he was shot in 1981 by a would-be assassin, and later endured his almost decade-long battle Alzheimer’s disease. He called Nancy Reagan “President Ronald Reagan’s dedicated wife, a true partner in the president’s unique leadership, including his strong friendship with Israel”. But while first lady, she stated most of her opinions in private.

“I don’t know that you see many people that carry herself as well as she did, especially at a time that politics don’t seem to be at their highest level”, he said.
