Vikings kicker Blair Walsh visits supportive first-graders

So I was kind of glad but also kind of sad for him, ‘ one of the first-grade girls told KARE. Some fans invited him to leave the state – and worse.

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) – The first-graders at Northpoint Elementary obediently sat cross-legged on the floor, eagerly awaiting the arrival of their newfound friend.

Messages from the kids include “For Blair Walsh”.

“I’m so touched for what these kids did”.

When seeing how well the work by the students turned out, school officials, including Principal Judi Kahoun, got the word out to the local media about what had been mailed to Walsh at the Vikings offices.

Walsh’s father, Joe, learned of the story and was the one to break it to his son, who was overwhelmed.

The kicker shared a little information about his life with the kids, who grilled Walsh on such hot button issues as whether or not he owned a guinea pig (he does not).

Walsh visited the school on Thursday, meeting with students and signing autographs. Walsh, we should remember, missed a short field goal, knocking his team out of the playoffs.

Via Claude Peck of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings kicker is visiting a class of first-graders who wrote him letters of support after he missed a potential game-winning field goal last week against the Seahawks. The Seahawks won 10-9.

One put pictures of puppies on a card that Walsh called “too cute”. For his career, Walsh is 121-of-142 on field goal tries.

He made time to answer the kids’ questions.

“All of it is heartwarming to me”, Walsh said.

“I just wanted to come by… and say thank you very much for all the letters you wrote and the cards”, Blair said while addressing the class. “They’re very, very touching to me”. This isn’t the end.
