It was announced on September 23, 2016 that their star running back was placed on injured reserve, ending his time on the 2016 Vikings roster…at least for now.

Adrian Peterson has been placed on injured reserve by the Minnesota Vikings, one day after his surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Peterson injured his knee during Sunday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

“Adrian Peterson’s season may officially be over…” “The surgery was performed by team physician Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics”.

Coach Mike Zimmer says Floyd had a “cleanup” procedure to address a cartilage issue in his knee that had been causing some discomfort. “The rehabilitation process will begin immediately”, the team added.

Peterson could counter by saying that even though he’s a 10-year veteran, he has missed the majority of two of the past three seasons.

In the short term, the Vikings’ decision centers on how to divide Peterson’s workload.

There’s a chance that we’ve seen Adrian Peterson’s last game in a Vikings’ uniform at this point.

Long-term, as in March 2017, the Vikings have a bigger call to make: whether to pay Peterson’s $11.75 million base salary, triggered by a $6 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year. The team doesn’t have to decide until later which player it wants to bring back.
