Vikings RB Adrian Peterson to Have Knee Surgery Thursday

Peterson faces surgery • Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson will have surgery on his right knee to fix a torn meniscus, putting his season in question.

The Vikings announced that his surgery was successful, and that the team has not used their “designated-to-return” option on a player yet, leaving the window open for a potential Peterson return late in the regular season. The likelihood of him returning this year, though, is slim given the typical recovery time for the injury he suffered last weekend in the game against Green Bay.

The Vikings also lost left tackle Matt Kalil, brother of Carolina center Ryan Kalil, to a season-ending hip injury.

The Vikings, after winning the NFC North last season and suffering a near-miss playoff defeat to the Seattle Seahawks on a missed field goal, once hoped that Bridgewater’s continued development as a passer would complement Peterson’s running and enable them to make a run deeper into the postseason this season. It’s also not a huge stretch to think some of them might be angry that Peterson chose to undergo a surgical procedure that will keep him out most of the year when he might have been able to play sooner.

The Rams signed Williams two weeks ago, but never activated him for a game.

Diggs, a fifth round draft pick by the Vikings in 2015, leads the league with 285 receiving yards.

But it gets more hard as time goes on, and his hefty contract perhaps would have to be renegotiated before next season for him to remain with the team.

The Vikings have sent three starters into surgery this week.

Bradford had the opportunity to play Carolina last season as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and it did not turn out so well.

Shamar Stephen has filled in for Floyd in the defensive line rotation.

While McKinnon may get more carries than Asiata in Peterson’s absence, Asiata is the better pass protector and their go-to goal-line weapon.

“Hopefully we can play good defense and hopefully we can run the ball”.

“I’d much rather have him be aggressive and get a couple of those once in a while than play real soft and scared”, Zimmer said of the flags thrown on Waynes.

“I haven’t been here long, but I think we’ve got a great group of running backs”, quarterback Sam Bradford said. “But he’s been playing good”.

NOTES: CB Xavier Rhodes (knee) returned to practice on Wednesday.

“I’ve been [in the NFL] five years now, and I’ve seen a lot of stuff”, Hillman said.

Meanwhile, Charles was listed as doubtful for the Jets on Friday’s injury report, and it is becoming increasingly likely that the four-time Pro Bowl player will not play before the Chiefs’ bye.
