He also got a call from a Steve Martin about three months ago and hung up immediately, which is what he encourages everyone to do.

“In a few cases, consumers have fallen for the IRS scam, because they are undergoing an IRS audit and when the call is received, consumers are not able to recognize the differences between the scammer and the IRS”, according to the agency. Callers claim to be employees of the IRS, but are not.

The IRS itself says it does not ever ask for pins, passwords or any other confidential information about credit cards or financial accounts.

“I didn’t think it seemed quite right, so I called my accountant”, said the woman who called in to the Fulton Sunday. They also mention that the residents will have their driver’s license taken if they do not pay the money.

Crooks are once again calling taxpayers and telling them they owe money to the IRS.

Eugene Police say we all need to remain careful and skeptical of callers.

Police believe the calls are coming from overseas.

Dreama Jensen at the Better Business Bureau said she has received close to 50 complaints from people who say they’ve gotten a fake call.

“There’s basically no way to stop it beyond educating people and helping them not be victimized”. They all warned that the IRS does not work this way.

They say you’re being sued.
