Villain of EPL Matchday 14 – Steve McClaren

The Democratic Republic of Congo worldwide said that he didn’t want to add pressure to his game at the moment and wanted to continue playing naturally despite already equalling his four-goal tally from last season. Alan Pardew is relishing the challenge of meeting his former side and hopes it can mark a positive turn for the Eagles who can jump a couple of places with a win, and challenge for European places.

Asked if he still had the Newcastle fans’ support after another drubbing, he said: “Well, I can understand that after today probably not”. Barring the 2012/13 season, where they finished 16th, Newcastle never really flirted with relegation under Pardew. It’s all about the spirit, they’ve got to go dogged.

Papiss Cisse has scored in both of his league outings against Crystal Palace.

Palace were not content to settle, however, with Jason Puncheon whipping an effort narrowly over the bar and Bolasie missing a chance to seal his hat-trick, before Elliot had to tip Joel Ward’s fierce drive over the crossbar as a beaten Newcastle reverted to damage limitation. It’s about pride, working for each other and not letting down the man next to you. A win at home this weekend will be a good way for them to get back on track and I think that they should win.

They aren’t down and out just yet, but one is beginning to wonder. Showing tremendous spirit though, the Cherries put up a stunning comeback to level things within the 87 minute.

The “Wally with the brolly” (aka Newcastle’s McClaren) would be best suited in shielding his embarrassment from the visually insulted Geordie following, as a five star Palace performance produced an entertaining five goal annihilation to condemn Newcastle to a relegation spot.

The Magpies sit next to bottom with only Villa below them in the table, but don’t worry because McClaren has said: “I think it is key, that there’s no panic.” .

“He does play football but is rugby he really likes”.

“It’s hard to talk about the opposition, I love the staff and players who are there, and the fans”.

Sunderland’s first away victory of the season owed much to Palace’s lack of a threat in the final third and Millen revealed that forwards Dwight Gayle and Bakary Sako will miss out against Newcastle because of injury. Where, for starters, can McClaren find characters with the fibre of Gareth Southgate, Ugo Ehiogu, Mark Schwarzer or George Boateng in this dressing room? They could do with the former back now, but those days are long gone.
