Raven tells the definitive history of Peoples Temple, from its idealistic beginnings to its bad end in Jonestown.

Titled Raven, the limited series event will follow Jones and his followers from the idealistic beginnings of the Peoples Temple right through to its harrowing end, when a couple of members passed a desperate note to a visiting congressman, pleading for help. Should Raven go to series, it would become the latest drama for Gilligan, who now exec produces AMC prequel Better Call Saul.

Raven is the second drama taking on Jonestown in the works. Gilligan went on to create prequel “Better Call Saul” and MacLaren was recently announced as the director of the big screen adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s “The Nightingale”.

Actress Octavia Spencer will serve as an executive producer on the HBO limited series “Raven”, which documents the story of Jim Jones and how he led his followers to their death. Following the end of Breaking Bad, Gilligan also executive produced the CBS series Battle Creek, based on an old pilot script he had written years ago. According to Deadline, Emmy-winning director Michelle MacLaren will be the one behind the camera for all of the episodes. Gilligan and MacLaren’s series will reportedly chronicle the origins of the cult and its members’ journey from IN to California as the group grew, and the subsequent move to a settlement IN Guyana IN 1977 after the group came under scrutiny by the USA government.

Gilligan and MacLaren are repped by ICM Partners.
