HBO will premiere Vinyl, a series about the New York music scene in the ’70s that’s co-produced by Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese, in January.

Here’s the logline from HBO…

Scorsese and Jagger will be joined by Empire’s Terence Winter as a writer and show-runner. “It’s fast, it’s dirty, it smashes you over the head!” shouts Bobby Cannavale (Richie Finestra), a music executive trying to resurrect his record label.

And just to answer the question everyone will ask – no, the Mickster is NOT starring, which is too bad, because he IS a good actor. Scorsese and Jagger previously worked together on the 2006 documentary “Shine A Light”.

Additional series regulars include OLIVIA WILDE, RAY ROMANO, ATO ESSANDOH, MAX CASELLA, P.J. Check out the trailer, if only to see more shots of the show’s live performances and savvy utilization of The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog”. Its first season will consist of 10 episodes.
