Sartaj Aziz said the worldwide community should take notice of this human rights violation in Bangladesh.
Responding to an adjournment motion moved by Senator Sirajul Haq and Nehal Hashmi against the hangings of aged leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, he said Pakistan wanted cordial relations with Bangladesh but the policies of incumbent government were hurdle in this regard.
Relations between the two countries have never recovered from the 1971 war in which Bangladesh claims that 3 million people were killed.
The Bangladeshi journalists raised the issue of Pakistan’s repeated interferences in Bangladesh’s internal affairs and its attempt to present factually incorrect claims centering on the trials of war criminals in Bangladesh.
In protest, Turkey on Thursday recalled its ambassador to Bangladesh for consultations.
“International organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch had deemed the decision (to hang JI leaders) unacceptable”, he said.
Chaudhry pointed out that the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh are bound by the ties of shared history, faith and culture.
Diplomatic tensions between both nations seemed shaky with each government summoning the other’s envoy to lodge strong protests over the execution of Jamaat chief Nizami. This is not the first time the Pakistani parliament has taken such as a step.
“Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka hours after the execution, an important expression of India ” s support to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, explains Rajeev Sharma.
He asked the law minister to look into the matter and urged the government to formulate new legislation if they could not work with the existing bill.
