Violence flares in the West Bank and East Jerusalem

An IDF soldier was lightly wounded Saturday morning in a stabbing attack in the West Bank city of Hebron, according to officials. The UN have expressed outrage over previous extra judicial killings of Palestinians, which Israeli forces have tried to defend by stating that they were attacked by knife. “I aided him and dressed his wound to stop the bleeding, and shortly thereafter I evacuated him in moderated condition to the hospital where he is being treated by doctors”. The Palestinians say it is rooted in almost 50 years of military occupation and dwindling hopes for independence.

The assailant had been hiding in some bushes, perhaps for hours, according to reports, which noted that the communities electronic security system had picked up movement near the entrance to the community at least twice, beginning after 1 a.m.

The attacker, identified as Saeed Amro, had crossed into Israel from Jordan a day earlier, security officials said.

Hatem Abed Hafez Shlwdi is now the fourth Palestinian that has been killed by Israeli soldiers within the last 48 hours.

An Israeli military spokesperson told AFP that the latest attack was “another expression of the incitement [against Israel] on the Palestinian street and on social networks”.

Tensions have soared in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories since an uptick in Israeli-Palestinian violence began nearly one year ago.

Since October, 227 Palestinians, 34 Israelis, two Americans, one Eritrean, a Sudanese as well as the Jordanian have been killed in violence, according to an AFP count. The man had both a Jordanian and a Palestinian ID on him, police said.

According to the Palestinian report, the wounded woman is the sister of another young Palestinian who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers at the same junction in June during a similar attempt to ram a vehicle into pedestrians.

Thirty-five Israelis were also killed in stabbing and shooting incidents carried out by Palestinians.

Two men – a Palestinian and a Jordanian – were shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday during two separate alleged attacks in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. “We call on the worldwide community to engage rapidly and effectively before it is too late”. Others were killed during protests and clashes.
