Violence rises in Syria, puts truce in limbo
It said rebel groups “did not commit to a single element” of the deal.

Russian Federation took the side of the Syrian government, blaming the rebels for violating the truce.
Moadamiyat Al Sham mayor Bassam Karbuj said about 7,000 food parcels were distributed and that the army would take full control of the town once remaining rebels are bussed out “in the coming days”.
Iran, another close ally of Syria’s government, also condemned the USA raid, saying it violated Syria’s sovereignty and “showed that terrorist groups enjoy U.S. support in Syria”.
Its future will be at the top of the agenda of a meeting Tuesday morning of about 20 countries supporting opposing sides in the Syria conflict, including the US and Russian Federation, that belong to the International Syria Support Group.
In an interview with CNN, Kerry urged Russian Federation to pressure Syrian leader Assad, whom he called “a spoiler [who] doesn’t want a ceasefire”. Two US officials also confirmed that a tank was among the vehicles hit in the strike, raising more questions about what kind of intelligence led the coalition aircraft to conclude Islamic State militants were operating the military equipment.
A central effort of the ceasefire was to allow humanitarian aid to besieged populations throughout Syria.
“Every time the Syrian state makes tangible progress either on the ground or towards national reconciliation, anti-Syrian states increase their support of terrorist organisations”, Assad said in comments published by state news agency SANA.
The air strikes, which have further undermined an already fraying ceasefire between the regime of Bashar al-Assad and anti-regime rebels, are now being investigated by the US-led coalition.
Iran is one of Assad’s strongest supporters.
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) shot down a Syrian warplane on Sunday as regime forces regained ground lost to the extremists following a US -led airstrike that hit government forces the day before, state media said.
Also Monday, the opposition reported 254 violations by government forces and their allies since the truce started on September 12.
US Secretary of State John Kerry said it was too early to call the ceasefire finished, and the United Nations said that only Washington and Moscow could declare it over, as they were the ones who had originally agreed it.
“As soon as the commanders were advised that there were Syrian government forces affected the operation was discontinued and we regret the loss of life”, said Turnbull.
He didn’t explain whether this means Moscow is opting out of the cease-fire and giving the Syrian government the free hand to freely use force again.
The Syrian Civil Defense, a volunteer emergency medical service, posted video of the aftermath of the attack on social media showing a warehouse ablaze and claiming that helicopters had dropped four barrel bombs on the site of a Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) aid warehouse, blaming the Syrian regime for the attacks.
The U.S. military says it may have unintentionally struck Syrian troops while carrying out a raid against ISIS on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Washington says it will “reassess the future prospects for co-operation” with Moscow.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement, sent to the UN Security Council, said American warplanes repeatedly attacked Syrian army positions.
Russian Federation and Syria said the strikes prove Washington and its allies are sympathetic to ISIS, which they say was able to briefly capture a Syrian position in the wake of the coalition attack.
The airstrikes by the coalition planes near the Deir ez-Zor airport were first reported by the Syrian Army on Saturday.
Russia’s military said it was told by the Syrian army that at least 62 Syrian soldiers were killed in the Deir el-Zour air raid and more than 100 were wounded.

Defence Minister Marise Payne has vowed there will be no pause in Australian air strikes against the so-called Islamic State as an investigation is carried out into the accidental bombing of at least 60 Syrian soldiers.
