Virginia officer fatally shot day after swearing

Prince William County Police Officer Ashley Guindon started out as an intern with the department and was sworn in the day before she was killed.

News 9 has just confirmed that a Virginia officer shot and killed in the line of duty has ties to New Hampshire.

A statement released on the department’s Facebook page said, “It is with profound sadness that we announce that Prince William County police Officer Ashley Guindon, one of the officers involved in this evening shooting… has died as a result of her injuries sustained during the incident”.

The department had said in a Twitter post on Friday that Guindon would be working her first shifts this weekend after having been sworn in, adding “Be safe!”

The unidentified suspect, who was not injured during the deadly confrontation, was apprehended at the scene of the shooting.

Prince William County Commonwealth Attorney Paul Ebert told the Associated Press news agency that he had signed off on a capital murder charge against the suspect, along with counts involving the initial domestic argument.

“She clearly had a passion to serve others”, Hudson said.

Two other officers were also shot but their conditions were unknown as of Saturday night.

Guindon had been an officer before but took some time off, Stewart said.

Ronald Hamilton, 32, is being held without bond in the county detention center on charges that include murder of a law enforcement officer. However, on Sunday morning, FOX 5’s Megan Dice reported those two officers are expected to be okay. No information was available about the other two.

More than 100 patrol cars lined the roads as her body was escorted from the hospital early this morning.

An army sergeant assigned to the Pentagon has been arrested on charges of murder in connection with the death of a rookie police officer and one other person in Virginia. He is accused of shooting and killing Officer Ashley Guindon after she answered a domestic violence call at the Hamilton home Saturday evening. Police said Officer Ashley Guindon died in the shooting.

A suspect, who was not injured in the shooting, is in custody. She had previously earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. The officer also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
