Putin himself was not in the vehicle, which is registered to the Federation Council, or Russian Senate, at the time it hit an oncoming Mercedes on Kutozovsky Avenue in Moscow.
However the Russian President was not in the auto at the time when it was struck head-on by another vehicle which crossed over from the opposite side of the road.
Putin was not in the vehicle when it was struck on Kutuzovsky Avenue, killing the unnamed chauffeur, who had more than 40 years of experience as a driver, the Express of the United Kingdom reported.
Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident, but have not given any further details about the crash.
The Kutuzovsky Avenue was subjected to a massive traffic jam, as the cleanup operation took multiple hours, and the Boulevard was closed immediately after the accident.
Paramedics arrived at the scene but announced Mr Putin’s chauffeur had been killed instantly. The same publication confirms that the 7 Series is registered to the Federation Council, which is Russia’s equivalent of Senate.
Putin will be the first recipient of a new bulletproof, Russian-built limo – a Kortezh, or Cortege – next year, The Sun reported.
