The spotlight was on Barbadian-born superstar Rihanna at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards last night when she received a lifetime achievement award – yes, at the age of 28 – and then dedicated it to her home country. Britney emerged looking, dancing and lip-syncing as good as the days she donned bikini tops and Burmese pythons.

Beyonce closed her performance with “Formation”, for which she won a VMA for Video of the Year. This year it was awarded to Rihanna, who split up her performances throughout the night, singing hits such as “Work”, “We Found Love” and “Love on the Brain”.

“My success started as my dream, but now my success is not my own”.

The Barbados-born beauty sported a sexy sheer, fringe jumpsuit and hoop earrings while Drake opted for jeans and a black and blue printed jacket, a much more casual look from his dapper award show tuxedo. It’s my family’s. It’s my fan’s.

The singer-songwriter took the stage for an epic 15-minute performance at the awards ceremony, during which she played a few of her latest hits.

Although Kim was nowhere to be seen during the exchange, Kanye, who has always been candid about his long time desire for his now-wife, previously made the cutting remark: ‘If Kim had dated me when I wanted, there would be no Amber Rose’.
