Voice of original Boba Fett, Jason Wingreen, has died
Jason Wingreen – the Brooklyn-born actor best known as the voice of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back – has passed away at the age of 95. Jason, who also played Harry the bartender on All in the Family, was a legendary actor and will be missed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wingreen auditioned for Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, a role that ultimately went to Frank Oz. Instead, he voiced the Mandalorian bounty hunter, who got only four lines in the film.
The Brooklyn native appeared in three episodes of The Twilight Zone, most notably portraying the real train conductor in the 1960 episode in “A Stop at Willoughby”.
“I have a little helmet that my son and daughter-in-law bought me on eBay and gave me as a birthday present, where if you press a little button my voice says, ‘Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold, ‘” he told the Classic TV History blog in 2010.
“I loved it. It was wonderful”. Wingreen did not garner an onscreen credit for the role- it wasn’t until around 2000 that he was even acknowledged with providing Fett’s voice – and THR writes that Wingreen received no residuals from the part, even though some of the early Boba Fett action figures used his voice.

He served in World War II before he started his acting career and became one of the founders of the famed Circle in the Square theater company in Greenwich Village.
