Volkswagen brand US sales fall nearly 25 percent in November

On continued sales of vehicles powered by the EA189 engines, VW said: “Based on the current situation, Volkswagen Group India will continue the production and sales of the cars with EA 189 engines in India”. Cars which were manufactured and sold between 2008 and November 2015 will be recalled.

Edmunds says: The fallout from the Volkswagen diesel-emissions scandal takes on dramatic proportions in the monthly sales report.

The US government says another 85,000 six-cylinder diesels also had cheat technology installed.

Volkswagen initially denied this, but subsequently admitted to the EPA and the California Air Resources Board that these vehicles had three separate Auxiliary Emission Control Device (AECD) software routines, one of which qualifies as a “defeat device” under the agency’s certification rules.

“The 2.0-litre engines will get a software update”. Meanwhile, environmental groups such as the National Green Tribunal have turned up the heat on Volkswagen in India, seeking a ban on the manufacture and sale of its vehicles in the country for allegedly flouting emission norms.

Volkswagen’s Indian Unit will recall 3.23 lakh vehicles in India after a government investigation found the company using diesel engines equipped with a device which helps cheat emission tests, NDTV reported.

The ARAI is a research association formed between the automotive industry and the ministry of heavy industries.

“We also see weaker business prospects for the group, as VW experiences reduced profits and cash flows from lower volumes and prices, as well as substantial costs and potential fines and litigation damages”, it said in a statement.

Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned shortly after various countries began taking legal action against the German auto maker.

ARAI director Rashmi Urdhwareshe did not respond to phone calls or text messages.

“Technically, they [VW AG] have found a solution to the emissions issue, which is a software update or a little piece of plastic in the inlet side of the engine on the 1.6-litre models”, he said yesterday.

Measures for the 1.2-litre diesel engines will be announced shortly, the company said.

It was first revealed in September that VW had given some of its cars software that lets them emit less pollutants in tests than on the roads.
