Volkswagen Rolls Out Goodwill Package for Disgruntled Diesel Owners
As Volkswagen picks up the pieces after the recent diesel emissions scandal, the automaker is offering goodwill compensation to owners of vehicles powered by its 2.0-liter TDI engines. NOx emissions standards are stricter in America than the European Union, so the recall of US Volkswagen cars will require more comprehensive alterations to the software and mechanicals of their vehicles. But he added: “VW should take full responsibility for its deceit and harm to almost 500,000 customers by offering to buy back defective cars at their original prices”.

Kalafer said he hasn’t heard yet from any customers about Volkswagen’s offer, but he expects they’ll want more from the company to address the many issues raised by the emissions scandal.
“There are no stipulations”, said VW spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan.
Volkswagen said that 11 million cars equipped with defective software have been sold globally.
Volkswagen announced the gift package to the U.S. customers on Monday on its web page titled ‘We’re Working to Make Things Right’. The package is only available to those that now own an affected vehicle.
It found that affected diesel cars are spending an average 123 days on dealer lots, compared to 97 days for Volkswagen models not affected by the scandal.
Monday’s offer comes on top of an existing promise to offer $2,000 U.S.to current VW owners to trade in their cars for new models.
While owners thought VW might throw them money as a way to keep their business, those same owners were leery of small print included in any offer, especially concerning legal matters.
Even though it’s Volkswagen’s diesel emission testing that’s under the microscope, regulators on both sides of the Atlantic say they are testing a wide range of auto brands to see if they can detect cheating.
Last week, the US Environmental Protection Agency issued a second notice to Volkswagen accusing the company of installing “defeat devices” aimed at manipulating emissions tests. Affected owners must register for the Goodwill Package by April 30, 2016 and comply with all Program Rules, including activating at participating dealership within one year of issuance.
No. Volkswagen is still figuring out how to fix all the affected vehicles.
