Vols Enjoy Signature Win Over Georgia
It’s as consistent as Old Faithful. And sadly, the women I met at these dinners were better football watching buddies than the guys. “I feel like we’re a resilient team and that we’ll be able to come back from this and move forward”.

While Georgia has (had) a lot of great pieces in place, the number of key players leaving the program after the 2014 season was simply going to be too much to overcome in just one season.
Incidentally, it’s hard to imagine a coach with 140 wins and 49 losses in his career as a head coach after being Bobby Bowden’s right hand man being on the hot seat is hard to understand. Whether it’s a Nick Saban-coached squad having a solid defense, a Bill Snyder-coached team exceeding expectations, or a rivalry week upset that completely changes the national championship picture, there are a few things that you can simply count on every year.
Missouri also comes in off a loss.
If the Gators lose that one, it would make for an interesting situation when they head to Jacksonville two weeks later to take on the Bulldogs. So when things don’t work out the way fans think they should – realistic or not – the blame automatically shifts to Mark Richt. The powers that be in college football want different destinations for schools and unique match-ups in the bowl games; hence the showdown in Charlotte with former DC Todd Grantham.
Davis is going to be seeing that play in his nightmares for quite a while.
“I think these guys are pretty resilient”, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said.
It was hardly Richt’s fault.
Conley and others echo their coach’s sentiments, and the ones lucky enough to the make it the next level appreciate Richt’s supportive and encouraging nature now that they’re away from the friendly confines of Sanford Stadium.
Georgia running back Nick Chubb is expected to miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee Saturday in the Bulldogs’ loss at Tennessee. They were playing on the road against a Tennessee team desperate for a win.
-QB Greyson Lambert: A transfer from Virginia who didn’t arrive in Athens until July, Lambert was inaccurate for the second straight game, both Georgia losses, completing 15 of 32 attempts for 279 yards and two touchdowns. But, over the years Richt has become much more conservative.
Then, add highly-touted Harris to the mix and Rome, the highest-ranked Georgia tight end recruit in at least a decade, gets cemented to the No. 2 spot, catching passes from Brice Ramsey at a Wednesday practice.
Johnson has managed two 11-win seasons since 2009, while Richt has led UGA to just one.
The feeling among those who crow about the need to replace Richt always come up with the same argument – the Bulldogs underachieve under his coaching.
Georgia (4-2, 2-2 SEC) can still win the SEC East if it wins out and another team beats Florida, which just had starting quarterback Will Grier suspended for one year Monday. “We wanted it more than them”.
Keepers of the “Fire Richt” banner point to the tremendous recruiting job that Richt does, followed by less than expected results.
That’s really all Georgia can do at the moment. Even when Georgia had a chance to tie the game with six seconds left, the defense stepped up and made the play to win the game.
I don’t believe that Mark Richt is going anywhere anytime soon.
I kid you not. And with no conference title since 2005, it’s easy to argue that Richt’s best years are behind him. “But if you’ll hold on, you’ll be glad you did”.
Just white noise, nothing more.
