Volunteers deliver 17000 Thanksgiving meals to needy
Community Projects for Seniors was founded almost 30 years ago to provide Thanksgiving meals to low-income seniors – and to ensure they were not alone during the holiday.

For some volunteers the deliveries have become a yearly tradition of giving.
“I think just looking at all the boxes we’ve packed, and just knowing that we’re helping a family have a Happy Thanksgiving, and knowing that they’re gonna go to bed tonight with a full stomach”, said Joseph Koegel, a senior at St. Thomas Academy who pulled an all-nighter to volunteer.
For 18 years, the church has delivered meals to homebound residents in local communities.
He said he looks forward to passing out meals every Thanksgiving.
“To show up at the door and they are so appreciative and so thankful for us being there, that makes it all worthwhile for us”, volunteer Mike Hart said.
Eric Hepert noted, “Twenty percent of the 400 needy people are veterans on this Thanksgiving so it kind of makes sense for us to be out here to deliver meals to not only the civilians but also our veterans who are in need”.
Vasquez said even though the food is delicious, her favorite part of the day is spending time with the kids.
The director of the Mobile Meals program says they are always in need of volunteers.
