Volunteers dismiss WR Alton ‘Pig’ Howard for rules violation

In a teleconference today, Butch Jones announced that senior wide receiver Pig Howard has been dismissed for violating team rules (which we can all assume has something to do with marijuana, because what else would you hide with such a vague reason).

The team said he was injured for the Florida and Arkansas game and Butch Jones says his dismissal is unrelated to time missed after the the Western Carolina game.

Last season, Howard led Tennessee with 54 receptions for 618 yards, bringing his career totals to 112 catches for 1,068 yards and five touchdowns and an additional 246 yards and two touchdowns rushing on 49 carries. “It’s unfortunate, but we have to continue to move forward”.

“The truth of the matter is we’re a good football team and we’ve lost to three very, very good opponents”, Jones said.

The loss of Howard probably won’t have a lot of affect on the field against Georgia, but the continued stream of distractions, along with fan and alumni disappointment reaching critical levels, could prove to be a big problem against a ranked team coming in after being spanked by Alabama. We talk about it every week.

Jones also declined to get into the specifics of what Tennessee would do if Kendrick isn’t available.
