The Wake County Salvation Army has around 1,500 volunteers to help ring the bells, but they still need more.

For the last 10 years, Success Martial Arts instructor Brian Higgins and families who have students in the program have dedicated their time to help set up the Salvation Army’s Toy and Joy Shop on Black Friday.

“People that can’t get out, either because of the snow or just physical elements, or people that just don’t want to get out because of whatever reason – we’re just going to deliver to them”, Aird said.

Past year kettle donations totaled almost $270,000.

The Salvation Army in Traverse City is changing that.

“The volunteers knocked on the doors of more than 750 shut-ins this Thanksgiving morning.

Their service is unbelievable”, said Major DeeAnn Glick with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.

Volunteers showed up at 8:30 a.m. Thursday with the task of feeding around 2,100.

Cook said lunches like today’s are not possible without the help of volunteers.

“We also make food hampers up so we would welcome items such as soup, tinned fruit, tinned meats, sugar, tea, coffee, pasta, sauces and biscuits or chocolates”.

Clement went through culinary school and is supposed to be retired says she loves cooking and putting a smile on people’s faces.

Trevino says they’re in need of ringers this holiday season.
