Volvo unveils new child seat concept that can swivel [video] – Worldcarfans

In other cars have children in the back seat, making them non-believers dramatically but the new Volvo auto sizes can be easily converted and the child will be in the foreground.

Fitted on a pedestal that replaces the front passenger seat, the contraption faces backward; this not only gives the rear passenger an ideal position to tend to the child, but it’s the safest place for a baby in a auto.

A photo shows a brand new concept on child safety seat developed by Volvo.

The seat sits atop a swivelling, raised platform created to make life easier for the doting parents and secure the toddler in complete comfort and safety.

Both concepts are born from the XC90 Excellence, a new four-seat version of Volvo’s new-generation SUV that promises a higher grade of comfort and luxury – in exchange for a slightly smaller passenger capacity. This is primarily due to the lack of muscular strength in the necks of small children and the disproportionate head size and weight in relation to the body.

VOLVO ALREADY OFFERS integrated booster seats in many of its models, and now it wants to go one step further by showing off how it might fit an integrated baby capsule for infants into Volvo cars in the future. Additionally, storage spaces beside and beneath that seat can be used for items such as diapers, bottles or blankets. Finally, it provides a function to help small children safely lean back and sleep. And we see a direct connection between luxury and emotional well-being.

“For us the safety, convenience, and emotional factors outweigh everything else”.

The child seat can also be unlocked and rotated on its pedestal toward the front passenger door, allowing for easier loading and unloading of its precious cargo. The finishing touch is a heated cup holder that can be used to warm up a bottle when it’s time for a feed.

“We have always placed a great deal of importance on child safety, but this takes things to the next level”, Johnson added.

The company has not yet outlined plans to bring the Excellence Child Seat concept to a production vehicle, though Johnson argues that such alternative seating arrangements will become particularly important as the industry moves toward fully autonomous vehicles.
