Volvo has taken to Snapchat to tease a concept vehicle that will be unveiled soon. The caption on one of the images reads “Not your daddy’s Volvo”, again hinting that it will appeal to younger buyers.

Co-developed with Chinese owner Geely, the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform that has from the outset been engineered to be up to premium class standards and reduce costs will underpin both new models. While the acronym is very matter-of-fact, we’ve got high hopes for the smallest Volvos, based on the mic-drop interior of the XC90 – victor of numerous awards, and runner up for the World Car of the Year in the luxury category – and the new S90 flagship sedan, which we’ll be driving in a few short weeks. The pictures, which were posted on the social networking app Snapchat, show what is likely a concept of the new XC40 SUV.

The new 40-series of cars is especially exciting for those of us in the United States, as it marks the return of the small Volvo to this side of the pond. We will most likely see some three cylinders and some four cylinders turbocharged engine.

Elon Musk on how to win friends and influence people: “In order for us to be confident of achieving volume production of Model 3 by late 2017, we actually have to set a date of mid-2017 and really hold people’s feet to the fire, internally and externally”, he said.

Interestingly, Volvo says the 40 series won’t be “small versions of our big cars, we wanted to differentiate styling for each of the series”.
