Volvo V90 Cross Country teased

Based on the new V90, the Cross Country model is a tall, rugged-looking station wagon developed to replace the XC70. While the new fourth generation of the vehicle is still under the wraps, the company had released a teaser confirming the launch.

The new auto will be based on the new V90 but will be a taller and a more rugged-looking station wagon that could replace the XC70. The company hence, will be revealing the vehicle before the slated auto show and will try to keep people engaged until it is finally launched to go on sale sometime next year. Roof rails and model-specific alloy wheels will round out the look. What is clearly visible is Volvo’s signature Thor’s hammer T-shaped LED daytime running lights, so no surprises there.

Powertrains are expected to be carried over from the V90 and XC90, as the two share the same platform and all-wheel drivetrain, meaning we could see T5 and T6 variants of the 2.0-litre turbo and supercharged four-cylinder powertrain. The model is an intermediate – or a compromise – between the V90 and the XC90 so the design will be nearly the same as in the station wagon but with added protective body cladding all around – while the higher ride and the standard all-wheel drive system should make drivers confident of driving under any weather. There is also a high-possibility that Volvo will not be a part of the auto show considering the company’s withdrawal from all but three major motor shows.
