Von Miller considers franchise tag ‘league-wide problem’ he can help fix
Although trading away Von Miller might be the Denver Broncos’ best backup option as the deadline approaches, it appears the team is focusing exclusively on working out a long-term deal with their Super Bowl 50 MVP. Without one, he’d have to play on the franchise tag – which he has said in the past he won’t do. So there’s some urgency from all sides.

The person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing, said the new proposal was submitted to Miller’s agent, Joby Branion, on Friday and moves up the date at which more money would be guaranteed.
“No, I’m not gonna play on the franchise tag”.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Broncos’ most recent offer to Miller was for six years and $115 million with $61 million guaranteed by March 2017. “The “early trigger” all but fully guarantees the third year because with the second year already fully guaranteed, the chances are nearly nil the Broncos would release Miller prior to the second year of his deal”. “I’ve never really played for money”. Von’s only leverage at this point would be to threaten to sit out the entire season. It’s bigger than that for me. The owners will not give up these things without one heck of a fight, and for the time-being, I just don’t see it happening. He has missed just eight regular season games for the Broncos the last five seasons and was credited 35 combined tackles, 11.0 sacks, 4.0 forced fumbles (3 recoveries) last season.
“The Denver Broncos made a serious push towards retaining their star linebacker by sweetening their offer not once, but twice in the past 24 hours”. A trade would be ultra-complicated, as the Broncos would want big-time compensation, and the new team would have to negotiate a long-term deal with Miller before a deal.

For all of these reasons, expect a deal to get done by Friday between the Broncos and Miller.
