An Irish company that operates call centers and provides technical support for a number of high-profile tech firms plans to open a customer service facility in downtown Athens.
Voxpro, which provides customer and technical support, is to invest US$4m (€3.57m) in its centre of excellence. The company has 1,700 employees in the US and Ireland, and counts Google and Airbnb among its roster of well-known clients.
According to its website, which has job listings for its offices in Cork and Dublin, Ireland; Folsom and Palo Alto, Calif. The building at the corner of Broad and Thomas streets now houses the Athens Banner-Herald and Roundsphere, a local tech startup.
Amy Lopp, a business development specialist at the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department, told Global Atlanta that Voxpro chose Athens because of the “fit” between the company’s creative culture and that of Athens where the University of Georgia is located. Existing tenants won’t have to move because the building has more than 40,000 square feet of vacant space, Moore said. The full value of any incentive package also was not immediately known, but the company is eligible for tax credits for new jobs created.
The governor’s office referred questions to the state Department of Economic Development, which referred a lot of them to Voxpro’s corporate headquarters in Cork, Ireland.
