Vulnerable Republican briefly supported conservative immigration bill, cutting against his moderate image

Thousands of people have been protesting in several US cities against Donald Trump’s racist “zero tolerance” policies that are splitting migrant families and sending children to detention centers which activists and critics are comparing to Nazi concentration camps. “This is something I think is actually unacceptable, and is something that as Americans we shouldn’t be doing”.

The Trump administration insists the family separations are required under the law. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very risky trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions. The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders.

“Separating families is not mandated by law at all – that is an outright lie”, Clinton said during remarks at an event in NY.

“If we are truly that country, then it is our obligation to reunite these detained children with their parents – and to stop separating parents and children in the first place”. “Not on my watch”, Trump said Monday. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, reversed a decision to send a National Guard helicopter from his state to the Mexican border to assist in a deployment, citing the administration’s “cruel and inhumane” policy. Others sob so hard it seems they are gasping for air.

Although President Donald Trump and several members of his administration, including Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, have repeatedly claimed the family separation policy must be enforced, legal experts, including this group of attorneys, have challenged such an assertion.

Republican leaders have invited President Trump to visit Capitol Hill this week to try to fix the damage he did when he said he wouldn’t sign the immigration compromise that House Republicans had spent months writing.

Rosalyn Carter, the wife of former Democratic president Jimmy Carter, became the newest and last of living former first ladies on Monday to make a rare policy intervention joining Laura Bush, wife of George W Bush, and Michelle Obama, wife of Barack Obama, to publicly oppose the Trump administration’s policy. “It has no basis in law or scripture”.

“We will have a system where those who need to apply for asylum can do so and those who want to come to this country will apply legally”, he said.

Former First Lady Laura Bush spoke out against the Trump Administration’s policy of separating immigrant families at the border Sunday, sparking an outpouring of bipartisan dissent. About 17,400 dreamers lived in New Jersey as of September 4, 2017, ninth highest among the 50 states.

A grand bargain in Congress to finally resolve deep divisions over immigration law appeared unlikely, with Trump focused on winning funding for a wall he has long wanted to build along America’s southern border with Mexico.

“DHS policy of separating small children from their parents is wrong and should be discontinued immediately”.

The platform declares itself “against the separation of families and other human rights abuses associated with the USA migration apparatus” and demands immediate action regarding the inhumane treatment towards innocent people. The dreamers were supported by 85 percent of Americans in the CBS poll, with 12 percent opposing letting them stay. The key difference, he said, is that while the 2005 program referred all illegal immigrants for prosecution, it made exceptions for adults traveling with children. Picture taken on June 17, 2018.
