Volkswagen’s supervisory board is scheduled to convene on Monday for the first time in about a month, in a meeting also to be attended by CEO Mueller, to take stock of the fallout from the widening scandal, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters. Consider it goodwill cash.
VW in September admitted that it had cheated on diesel emissions tests in the US. So, the scandal came out badly hitting Volkswagen’s image and subsequently the whole cheating process was blamed on a couple of senior engineers, which I highly believe were made scapegoats.
The website, The Truth About Cars, posted that owners of the diesel cars in question would receive a cash card with a $500 value they could use for anything and between $500 and $750 more they could spend at any Volkswagen dealer.
The company faces lawsuits from owners seeking compensation for the decreased resale value of the roughly 500,000 Volkswagen and Audi vehicles that were equipped with illegal software.
“TDI owners should be on the lookout for anything that requires them to consent to any terms of vwdieselinfo.com, and they should consult a lawyer before signing any forms at a dealership and prior to accepting anything from Volkswagen”, Cappio said. The company has denied claims by USA regulators that a few larger diesel vehicles also had software that was not allowed.
Volkswagen AG plans to announce a new sales initiative in the United States this week to rebuild customer trust amid its emissions scandal.
The company says owners of affected vehicles should go to authorized dealers once they receive notification of the recall.
Many auto owners started to tweak on the payment process. However, Brown said he did not know specific details.
VW has promised to make changes to cars so they comply with emissions limits.
Mark McNabb, VW of America’s chief operating officer, said in the letter that he hoped this would give US dealers the “necessary tools to retain these individuals within the Volkswagen brand”.

The list includes Jetta, Golf lines, VW’s Passat and other EA 189 model.
