VW eyes 3.0-liter TDI Settlement by October
Bringing the Dieselgate-affected cars to compliance with EPA norms should not be an impossible task, but Volkswagen still needs approval from Federal Authorities, which takes longer than usual because every part of the proposed fix must be analyzed.

Embattled German carmaker Volkswagen could reach a financial and technical settlement with USA authorities over large-engined diesel cars found to have cheated emission tests by October, Audi’s head of sales said on Wednesday (31 August).
And of these 210,000 owners and lessees in the program, most want the buyback, said lead plaintiff’s attorney Elizabeth Cabraser.
Of those 210,000 people who have responded so far, majority have expressed a preference to have Volkswagen buy their vehicles back from them, rather than have the carmaker fix the vehicles, Cabraser told Bloomberg. And Bloomberg News reports the German automaker’s proposed buyback option has received the most interest.
Total compensation for owners and lessees who choose the buyback will range from a low of about $12,500 to a high of about $44,000, US officials said to Automotive News after the preliminary settlement was announced in late June. “But on the other hand, it would be shocking if a huge fraction of class members were to opt out when it has not been made inordinately hard for class members to register”. “Hopefully in October, latest the beginning of November, we will have the final agreement with the U.S”.
Volkswagen is hoping to finalize a settlement for its cheating 3.0-liter TDI engine by October.

Volkswagen’s settlement website, VWcourtsettlement.com, has received more than 1.5 million visits as of August 24, with about 210,000 owners registering for settlement benefits, according to an August 26 court motion obtained by Cars.com.
