VW: Fix gets OK for 460000 more cars with cheating software
VW announced the approval over the weekend, saying the fix pertains to cars with the 1.2-liter EA189 TDI engine and will cover almost half a million vehicles, included among them being the SEAT Ibiza and the Volkswagen Polo.

Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, and their partners that have employed this engine will gradually contact all of the customers of the affected cars so that they can fix the emission control devices on these units.
German transport authorities will allow Volkswagen to retrofit an additional 460,000 vehicles affected by the carmaker’s diesel emissions scandal, the company announced Sunday in Wolfsburg.
In the United States the testing of hardware and software solutions which would see Volkswagen Group vehicles meet emissions regulations is still ongoing. But the scope is tiny compared to Europe, where VW has some 8.5 million dirty diesels on the roads. The fix should require nothing more than a software update. Globally the figure is around 11 million.

The manufacturer is keen to resolve the issue without resorting to the buy-back of 475,000 affected vehicles across the Altlantic. Auto owners will now be prompted to contact fix shops to have their vehicles serviced.
