VW’s vehicle sales fall in European Union amid wider market slowdown

Volkswagen is apologizing. The company’s American arm rolled out its first ad campaign today addressing the emissions scandals that have rocked the company over the past couple of months. 5 % from the same month a yr earlier.Sales fell 26 % in Russian Federation & 50 % in Brazil.
“The Volkswagen passenger cars brand is experiencing challenging times”.
Well, it’s something. Perhaps a bigger display of its commitment toward change will be if VW could actually make good on its vow to begin making 11 million faulty diesel vehicles comply with emissions regulations in January and finish the massive undertaking by late 2016.
Volkswagen’s European sales and market share have dropped in the brand’s first full month of trading since its emissions scandal was revealed.
“In western Europe, the temporary sales stops for vehicles affected by the diesel issue had an impact on sales”, he added.
Volkswagen sold more vehicles than anyone else in Europe last month, but the company’s claim to the top spot could be coming to an end as the emissions scandal rolls on. Volkswagen lost 1.67 billion euros ($1.83 billion) in the third quarter, due largely to recall costs, and it warned that 2015 operating profit would fall significantly.
“The main factor in this deceleration in fortunes appears to be the fallout from VW’s emissions scandal”, Kristina Church and Charles Coldicott, analysts at Barclays (LSE: BARC.L – news), said last week. But with an onslaught of consumer litigation and government investigations pending and a fix still up in the air, it’s hamstrung in terms of what it can say to customers or do for them.
A “small but significant” number of owners have told the magazine that they no longer want their cars, Mr Holder said, as they viewed the vehicles as “damaged goods”.
“We are working tirelessly to develop an approved remedy for affected vehicles”, said Michael Horn, VW’s U.S. CEO, said in a statement.

Richard Blumenthal, a Democratic senator from CT, said that offer was “insultingly inadequate”. The trade paper implied that VW owner sentiments were decidedly neutral. “They need to get more personal – get on to owners sooner, say sorry and plead forgiveness”.
