The CBI has so far registered over 80 first information reports and launched over 10 preliminary inquiries into the Vyapam scam.

Vijay Bahadur’s body was found on a railway track near Belpahar station under the South-Eastern Railway’s Jharsuguda junction on Thursday, police said.

Family sources, the 65-year-old and his wife Nita had gone to Puri in Odisha to attend a reunion of 1978-batch IFS officers.

Singh’s wife Nita said the door of their AC compartment was left open and he might have fallen off the train while closing the door.

The post-mortem report is still awaited and probe into the case will progress based on that, police officials said.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had noted that no new deaths had been reported in the alleged scam after it directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over investigation in the case, as reported by the Indian Express.

The Vyapam – or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam – has been a major headache for both the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government and the Central government. Taking the Vyapam scam probe forward, CBI had carried out searches at almost 40 places in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh including the premises of alleged mastermind Jagdish Sagar and Dhanraj Yadav, a former OSD to Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.
