W. Is Back: Bush Bros. To Campaign Together

George will appear with his brother on Monday night at an event in South Charleston, SC at 6 p.m. EST.

The 69-year-old former president is highly popular in the Republican Party, particularly among South Carolina Republicans, who supported his 2000 and 2004 races for president.

The political world is anxiously awaiting the return of George W. Bush.

Jeb Bush, whose father was also president, played down his famous family roots for most of past year in his pursuit of the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, but in need of a boost, he has been relying more heavily on his family ties.

It said that Jeb had publicly defended his brother against political attacks, while distancing himself from the legacy of the largely unpopular George, who left office with the US embroiled in two wars and a financial crisis.

Since leaving the White House in January 2009, George W. Bush has maintained a relatively low profile, and his poor approval rating has steadily improved.

Republicans, meanwhile, crisscrossed the state in search of a path out of Donald Trump’s long shadow. He later picked up the endorsement of South Carolina’s former first lady Iris Campbell, a longtime Bush family ally.

George W. Bush has headlined several private fundraisers for him and reporters were allowed in at one of them, in Houston last October.

He cut a radio ad for his younger brother that started airing in SC on Wednesday. “Few people understand that better than President Bush who knows that we need a tested, strong leader as our next Commander-in-Chief”.

A second new ad promises a whirlwind of activity in the first 100 days of a Kasich presidency – “no excuses, no surrender”, says a narrator with a hint of a Southern accent.

Jeb Bush’s campaign hopes the appearance of Bush 43 will help build grassroots support in SC, following disappointing performances in Iowa and New Hampshire.
